Chapter 1
1 This is the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;1
2 Just as it is written through the prophet Isaiah,1 “Behold, I send My messenger ahead of you, to keep you in the way and lead you into the land I have prepared for you”2
3 “A voice crying out in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord. Make His paths straight!’3”
4 John the Baptist went out into the wilderness preaching the baptism of repentance into the remission of sins.
5 At that time all of Jerusalem, together with all the land of Judea was going out to him and were all being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.
6 Now John wore camel’s hair with a girdle of animal skin around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
7 And he would preach, saying, “One mightier than I comes after me of whom I’m unworthy to bow down to untie the straps of His sandals,
8 I have baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire4”
9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee to be baptized by John in the Jordan River.
10 Afterward at once coming out of the water, he saw the heavens open, and the Spirit descending like a dove and remaining upon Him;1
11 Then a voice came from out of the heavens, saying, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I Am well pleased”
12 Then at once the Spirit led Him into the wilderness.
13 But while He was in the wilderness for forty days He was tempted by the satan; and was among the wild beasts, and angels were ministering unto Him.
14 But after John had been put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, preaching the good tidings of God.1
15 Saying, “The set times have been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the good tidings”
16 Now as He was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
17 So He said unto them, “Come follow Me, and I will teach you to become fishers of men”5
18 And at once they forsook their nets and followed Him.
19 After going a short distance farther, He saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were in a boat tending the nets.
20 And right away He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men to follow Him.
21 Then they entered into Capernaum and He began to teach in the synagogue, early upon the Sabbath day.
22 And they were astonished by His doctrine; for He would teach as one having authority, and not as one of the scribes.
23 Then suddenly! In their synagogue, there was a man with an impure spirit; and he cried out,
24 saying, “Let us be! What is there between us and you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who You are: the Holy One of God!”
25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be you silent, and come out of him!”
26 Then the unclean spirit convulsed him, cried out in a loud voice, and came out of him.
27 And all of them marveled, to such extent that they began talking about Him, saying, “What is this remarkable doctrine? With authority He commands even the impure spirits, and they obey Him”
28 Then word of Him spread quickly in every direction throughout the entirety of the surrounding regions of Galilee.1
29 And immediately upon coming out of the synagogue, they went unto the house of Simon, together with Andrew, James and John.
30 And Simon’s mother-in-law was lying sick with a high fever; and immediately they spoke to Him concerning her.
31 So He went to her, lifting her up by hand, and the fever left her, then she attended them.
32 Once evening had come after the sunset, they brought Him all those who were sick and those who were demonically possessed.
33 And the entire city gathered at the door.
34 And He healed many who were sick with various ailments, and drove out many demons; but He would not permit the demons to speak, for they knew He was The Christ.1
35 Afterward, early in the morning while it was still dark, He got up and went unto a secluded place and there He was praying.
36 Therefore Simon and those with him were searching for Him;1
37 After they had found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You”
38 And He said unto them, “Let us go into the neighboring towns, so that I may preach to the people there also; for this purpose, I Am come”
39 Then He went throughout all of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.
40 At that time a leper came to Him, kneeling down before Him and pleading with Him, and saying unto Him, “If you are willing, you are able to cleanse me”1
41 And He was moved with compassion. So He stretched out His hand, touched him and said, “I Am willing; be clean”
42 And at once it departed from him and he was cleansed.
43 After sincerely warning him, at once He sent him away,
44 and said unto him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to a priest and present the sacrifices for your cleansing which Moses commanded, as a testimony unto them”
45 But he went out and began declaring to all and spreading the word, to such an extent that He could no longer enter a city openly, but stayed in unpopulated areas; at that time they began coming to Him from every direction.

Chapter 2
1 And after several days, once again He entered into Capernaum, and it was reported that He was in the house.
2 And many had gathered, to such an extent that there was no longer room, not even around the entrance; and He was preaching the word to them.
3 Then they came, bearing a paralytic unto Him, carried by four men.1
4 But they were unable to get close to Him on account of the crowd, so they uncovered the roof where He was; and breaking through the roof, they lowered the matt upon which the paralytic was lying.
5 And upon seeing his faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven”
6 But some of the scribes sitting there, were reasoning within their hearts,
7 “How can He say such things? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins except only, the One God?”1
8 But Jesus immediately knew in His Spirit what they were reasoning within themselves, so He said unto them, “Why are you thinking these things within your hearts?
9 Which is easier to say unto a paralytic, ‘your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘get up, and take your mat and walk’?
10 But so that you know that the Son of Man has the power on the earth to forgive sins” Then He said unto the paralytic.
11 “I say unto you, get up! Take your mat and go to your house”
12 So at once he got up, and took his matt, and left in front of everyone, and they all marveled, and began giving praise unto God, saying, “Something like this has never been witnessed throughout all Israel”1
13 Then He departed once again unto the sea; and the entirety of the multitude was coming to Him, and He was teaching them.
14 Afterward as He was walking along, He saw Levi the son of Alpheus sitting in a tax collector’s booth, and He said unto him, “Follow me” And he got up and followed Him.
15 Now it came to pass while Jesus was sitting at the table in His house, and many farmers and sinners sat with Jesus and His disciples; for there were now many who followed Him.
16 But the scribes of the Pharisees, after they saw Him eating with the farmers and sinners, began saying to His disciples, “Why is He eating and drinking1 with farmers and sinners? This is your Teacher?”
17 After hearing this Jesus said unto them, “It is not the healthy who have need of a healer, but those who have a sickness; I Am not come to call the righteous, but sinners”1
18 At that time the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting; and they came and said to Him, “Why are the disciples of John and the disciples1 of the Pharisees fasting, but your disciples fast not?”
19 So Jesus said unto them, “The sons of a Bridegroom do not fast while the Bridegroom is with them, as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they will not fast.
20 However the day will come when the Bridegroom is taken away from them, and then on that day they will fast.
21 But no one sews an unprepared piece of cloth onto old clothing; or else when it is filled, the new will pull away from the old, and the separation occurring will worsen.
22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; or else the wineskins will burst, and the wine will flow out and the wineskins will be destroyed; instead new wine should be put into new wineskins”
23 And it came to pass while Jesus was going through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and along the way His disciples began to pick the heads of grain.
24 Therefore the Pharisees said to Him, “Behold! Why are they doing something that is not lawful on the Sabbath?”
25 But He said to them, “Have you never read what David and those with him did when they were hungry and had need;
26 How they entered into the house of God, during the time of the high priest Abiathar, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful to be eaten by him, but only by priests, and he also gave unto those who were with him”a 1
27 Then He said unto them, “The Sabbath was made for mankind, and not mankind for the Sabbath
28 Therefore the Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath”

Chapter 3
1 And once more He entered into the synagogue. And there was a man with a withered hand.
2 Now they were watching if He would heal him on the Sabbath, that they might charge Him.
3 And He said to the man who had a withered hand, “Step forward, into the center”
4 Then He said unto them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath, to do good or to do evil, to save life or destroy it?” But they were silent.
5 After looking upon them in anger, being sorrowful for the hardness of their heart, He said unto the man, “Stretch out your hand” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored unto the likeness of the other.
6 After going out, the Pharisees immediately devised a plot against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.
7 Afterward Jesus withdrew together with His disciples to the sea; and a great multitude from the land of Galilee, and from Judea followed after Him,
8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea and across the Jordan River, as well as, the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon, a great number heard of all the things He was doing and came to Him.
9 And He instructed His disciples that a boat should be made ready for Him, lest the multitude press upon Him;
10 Because He had healed many, to such an extent that those with ailments would rush upon Him in order to touch Him,
11 and when any of the impure spirits saw Him, they would fall down before Him and cry out, saying, “You are the Son of God!”1
12 And He would sternly warn them that they should not make Him known.
13 Afterward He went into a mountain, and invited those whom He wanted, and some went with Him.
14 Then He appointed the twelve and gave them the name apostles, that they might be with Him and so that He could send them forth to preach,
15 And with the power to heal the sick and cast out demons.
16 Then He ordained the twelve and bestowed upon Simon, the surname, Peter;
17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; He surnamed both, the Boanerges, which means, “The Sons of Thunder”
18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, along with Thaddaeus and Simon the zealot,
19 and Judas Iscariot, the one who also betrayed Him.
20 After they had entered into a house, once again a multitude gathered, to such an extent that they could not even eat their food.
21 But when His own people heard him, they went to take hold of Him, saying, “He must have lost His mind”
22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He’s with beelzebub!” and “By of the prince of demons He casts out the demons”
23 So He called them to Him, speaking unto them in parables, “How could satan cast out satan?
24 And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if satan has risen against himself, truly he is divided, therefore he cannot stand, rather he has been brought to an end.
27 But no one upon entering into the house of a strong man can pillage his vessels, without first tying up the strong man, and then he can pillage his house.
28 Truly I tell you, that all sins can be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they might blaspheme;
29 But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, will not be forgiven throughout the ages, but is guilty of an eternal sin”;a
30 Because of this they were saying, “He has an evil spirit”
31 Afterward, His mother and His brothers came and they were standing outside having sent someone to inform Him.
32 Now a crowd was sitting with Him, and they said to Him, “Look! your mother and your brothers are outside looking for you”
33 So to explain this He said unto them, “Who is My mother and My other brothers?”2
34 Then He looked upon those around and about Him, saying, “Behold! My mother and My brothers!
35 For whoever does the will of God, such as these are My brother, sister and mother”

Chapter 4
1 Afterward once again He began teaching beside the sea. And a large crowd gathered unto Him to such an extent that He stepped onto a boat upon the sea, and sat down; while the entire crowd was by the sea upon the shore.
2 And He was teaching them many things in parables, and speaking to them through His doctrine.
3 “Listen! Behold! the sower went forth to sow;
4 and it came to pass as He was sowing, truly, some fell beside the way, and the birds came and devoured them.1
5 But others fell upon the rock bed, where there was not much soil; and right away they sprung up because they had no deep soil.
6 But after the sun had risen up, they were burnt; and because they had no root, they wasted2 away.
7 Still others fell among the thorns, and the thorns sprung up and suffocated them, and they produced no crop.
8 But others fell upon the good soil, and growing and maturing they yielded a harvest, some thirty, some sixty, even a hundredfold”
9 Then He said, “Whoever has the ears to hear; let them listen”
10 Afterward when He was alone, those who were around Him with the twelve disciples were asking Him about one of His parables.2
11* So He said unto them, “Unto you the mystery of the kingdom of God has been given, but unto the outsiders all these things are spoken2 in parables,
12 So that, ‘they shall hear, but not understand, and see, but not perceive’3 otherwise they might, ‘repent, and be healed’3”
13 Then He said unto them, “Can you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any parables?
14 The sower sows the word.
15 And these are the ones upon the way, where the word was sown; but after they hear, at once satan comes and snatches away the word that was sown within them.1
16 And these are the ones so sown upon the rock bed, when they hear the word, at once they receive it with joy;
17 But having no root within themselves, instead they endure for a time; but when tribulation or persecution comes on account of the word, at once they fall away.
18 Now the ones who were sown among the thorns; are those who hear the word,
19* but the cares of this age, and the deceptions of the world2 enter in choking the word and they become unfruitful.
20 But those whom were sown upon the good soil; are those who hear the word and receive it, afterward producing a crop, one thirty, and another sixty, even a hundredfold”
21 Then He said unto them, “No one brings a lamp forth to put it under a bowl or place it under a bushel, no, but rather so that it might be put upon a lampstand.
22 For there is nothing hidden, that shall not be revealed; and nothing kept secret that will not come unto the light.
23 Whoever has the ears to hear, let them listen”
24 And He continued speaking unto them, “Be careful what you listen to. With the measurement you measure, it shall be measured unto you, and will be added unto you.1
25* For whoever holdsa unto Him, more shall be given; but whoever does not hold,a even what they have will be taken away from them”
26 And He said, “Likened unto this is the kingdom of heaven,1 just as a man sows seed upon the earth;
27 then lies down to sleep, and awakens at midnight and dawn, although the seed sprouts and flourishes in a way that he himself might not understand.
28 The earth produces its harvest; first the wheatgrass, then the ear, then the mature grain in the midst of the other heads of grain.
29 But when the grain is brought forth, shortly afterward he puts it to the sickle, for the harvest has come”
30 Then He said unto them, “Unto what shall I liken the mystery of the kingdom of God, or by what parable shall we compare it?1
31 It is like a mustard seed, which, is the leastb of all the seeds upon the earth, when it is sown upon the earth,
32 then after its sown, it grows and becomes the greatest of all the garden herbs, and it brings forth great branches; so that the birds of heaven can come and live under its branches”
33 And with many parables such as these He spoke the word unto them, as they were able to hear it;
34 But outside of a parable He would not speak to them; but among His own disciples, He would explain all these things.
35 And on that same day, when evening had come, He said unto them, “Let us cross over unto the other side”
36 Therefore after sending away the multitude, they went with Him just as before by boat, and there were other boats with them.
37 At that time a great tempest stirred up the winds and the waves were breaking into the boat, to such an extent that the boat was quickly being filled.
38 But He was at the stern, sleeping on a pillow; after waking Him, they then said to Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are dying?”
39 Then after He got up, He rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the winds diminished and a great peace came about.
40 And He said unto them, “Why do you fear? Do you still not have faith?”
41 And they were awestruck with great fear, and said unto one another, “What manner of Man is this, that even the winds and the waves obey Him?”
1. The Mt.Sinai Bible - 300-400 A.D. a. The word in ancient Greek can be interpreted as, “Has or hold” i.e. in this case God’s ways.
2. The Codex Bezae - 400-500 A.D. “To hold to a certain body of knowledge”
3. Isaiah 6:9-10 - DSS - 300-200 B.C. b. Cannot be translated as “smallest” Because there are seeds smaller than a mustard seed.
Chapter 5
1 After they had come to the other side of the sea, within the land of Gerasenes.1
2 And He had gotten off the boat, at once from out of a sepulture a man with an impure spirit met Him there,
3 who had been living among the tombs. And no one could bind him, not even with shackles;
4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but the shackles were torn off by him and the chains broken into pieces, and no man was strong enough to subdue him.
5 And all throughout the night and day amidst the tombs and in the mountains he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 But after seeing Jesus from a far, he ran and fell down before Him;
7 and he cried out with a loud voice, saying, “What is there between me and You, Jesus Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torture me!”
8 Then Jesus said unto him, “spirit of impurity, come out of this man!”
9 And He asked him, “What is your name?” And it spoke to Him, saying, “my name is legion; for we are many”
10 And they were begging Him desperately, so that He would not send them forth out of the country.
11 (Now a large herd of pigs was there feeding beside the mountain)
12 And they begged Him saying, “Send us into those pigs, that we might enter into them”2
13 And He permitted them. After all of the impure spirits had come out they entered into the pigs; and the herd (of about two thousand) rushed down the steep bank into the lake, and drowned within the waters.
14 Then even the herdsmen themselves fled and reported it in the fields and in the city. So the people came to see what had happened.
15 When the people came to Jesus and saw the man who was demonically possessed sitting down, clothed and of sound mind, the one who had the “legion” Then they were frightened.
16 And those who saw it gave an account to them as to what had happened to the demonically possessed man, and about the pigs.
17 Then they instructed Him that He was to depart from their borders.
18 When He had stepped onto a boat, the man who was demonically possessed was asking that he might go with Him.
19 But He would not permit it, instead He said to him, “Go home unto your people and declare unto them how much the Lord has done for you and how He has shown you mercy”3
20 Therefore He went and began to proclaim throughout Decapolis everything Jesus had done; and all the people marveled.
21 After Jesus had crossed over by boat to the other side, once again a great multitude gathered unto Him; while He was beside the sea.
22 And behold!3 One of the leaders of the synagogues, named Jairus, came to Him, and after he saw Him, he fell down before His feet.
23 And desperately pleaded with Him, saying, “My little girl is sick unto the point of death; therefore come lay your hands upon her, so that she will be healed and live”
24 So He went with him; and a great multitude followed after Him and was pressing upon Him.
25 And there was a woman with a bleeding issue of twelve years,
26 and she had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all she had and benefitted none, but had become worse.
27 When she heard about Jesus, she went into the crowd behind Him, and touched His garment.
28 For she was thinking unto herself, “If I can just touch His garment, I will be healed”
29 And at once the flow of her blood stopped; and she knew that her body had been healed of the affliction.
30 But at once Jesus knew within Himself that power had gone forth, and turning to the crowd, He said, “Who touched my garments?”
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You can see the crowd pressing against You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
32 And He was looking around to find who did this thing.
33 Now the woman was afraid, even trembling when she realized what had happened unto her, and she came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.
34 And He said unto her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace and be free of your affliction”
35 As He was still speaking a man from the synagogue came, saying, “Your daughter is dead; why are you still troubling the Teacher?”
36 But when Jesus heard1 what he said, He said unto the leader of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid, simply have faith”
37 And He allowed no one to follow along with Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James.
38 And coming to the dwelling of the leader of the synagogue; then He saw an outcry, along with weeping and much wailing.
39 And entering in, He said unto them, “Why are you troubled and weeping? The little girl is not dead, but asleep”
40 Therefore they began laughing at Him. But after He had driven all of them out, He took along the child's father and mother, and entered into where the little girl was.
41 And after He had taken little girl by the hand, He said unto her, “Talitha koum!” which is interpreted as, “Little girl, I say unto you get up!”
42 And right away the little girl got up and began to walk, in truth she was twelve years old. And they were greatly amazed.3
43 Then He sternly charged them so that no one would come to know of this, and He told them to give her something to eat.

Chapter 6
1 Afterward He went from there and came into His own country; and His disciples followed Him.
2 And when the Sabbath had come He began teaching in their synagogue; but many people were listening confounded, saying, “Where did He get these things? And who gave Him such wisdom? That such miracles happen through His hands?
3 Isn’t this the carpenter’s son by Mary, and His brothers James and Joseph and Judas and Simon? And are not His brethren from around us?” And they were offended by Him.1
4 So Jesus said unto them, “A prophet is not without honor except in His own land and among His kinsmen and in His own house”
5 And He did not work any miracles there except healing a few sick people by the laying of hands.
6 And He was astonished by their disbelief. Afterward Jesus went throughout the surrounding villages preaching.
7 And He called the twelve and began sending them out two by two, and gave them authority over impure spirits;
8 And He instructed them, “Take nothing on the journey, except only a staff, no food, no pouch, no money in your sashes:
9 and wear sandals; but not two cloaks”
10 And He said unto them, “Whenever you enter into a house, abide there until you would depart from that town.
11 And whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, depart from there and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony unto them. Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorra on the day of judgment than in that city”2
12 After going forth, they were preaching that the people should repent.
13 And they were casting out many demons and anointing many sick people with oil and healing them.
14 When King Herod heard of Him (because His name had become well known) then he said, “This is John the Baptist risen from the dead, and this is why these powers are working through Him”
15 But others were saying, “This is Elijah” still others said, “He is a Prophet, similar in regard to the other prophets”
16 But after Herod had heard, he said, “John whom I beheaded; has risen”1
17 For Herod had ordered that John be arrested and bound in prison, on the behalf of Herodias, his brothera Philip’s wife, since he had married.
18 For John had said unto Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have the wife of your brother”
19 Because of this Herodias was hostile to him and would have had him killed, but was not permitted;
20 for Herod was fearful of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he was watching over him. But after listening to him, he was greatly confused;1 but he would gladly listen to him.
21 Then came an opportune day at the time of Herod's birthday, he held a dinner for his noblemen and the military commanders together with the foremost men of the land Galilee;
22 and when his step-daughter by Herodias entered in and danced, indeed she pleased Herod, as well as, the dinner guests, so Herod said to the damsel, “Ask me anything you desire and I will give it to you”1
23 Then he swore to her, “Whatever you ask, I will give you; up to half my kingdom”3
24 So she went to her mother and said, “What should I ask?” And she answered, “The head of John the Baptist”
25 So in haste she immediately went to the king and asked, saying, “I desire that at once you would bring me the head of John the Baptist on a platter”
26 Now the King was deeply distressed, but on account of the oath and the dinner guests, he was unwilling to reject her.
27 Therefore at once the King sent for an executioner and ordered him to bring his head. And after going forth, he decapitated him within the prison,5
28 Then he brought his head upon a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel gave it to her mother.
29 After his disciples had heard, they came and took his body and buried him in a grave.
30 Afterward the apostles gathered unto Jesus; and they reported to Him all the great things they had done and taught.
31 Then Jesus said unto them, “Come, let us go to a solitary place and rest a while”4 For many were coming and going, and they had no opportunity to eat.
32 So they went by boat unto a solitary place by themselves.
33 But when the people saw them leaving, at that time a great many learned of it and ran by foot out of all their cities to travel ahead of Him and there they gathered unto Him.
34 After emerging, He saw a great multitude, and felt compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; so He began teaching them many things.
35 Then after many hours His disciples came unto Him, saying, “This place is desolate and the hour is already late;
36 send them away so that they can go into the surrounding region and villages, and buy themselves something to eat”1
37 But in response He said unto them, “You are to give them something to eat” But they said to Him, “Are we to go spend two hundred Denarii on food and give them something to eat?”1
38 But He said unto them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look” After having learned they said, “Five, and two fish”1
39 Then He instructed all of them to sit down group by group upon the green grass.1
40 So they sat down in groups by the hundreds and by the fifties.1
41 After He took the five loaves and the two fish, then looking up into heaven, He gave a blessing and broke the loaves and gave it unto the disciples, so that they could present it to the people; and He divided the two fish among all.1
42 And everyone ate and was satisfied,
43 Afterward they picked up twelve full baskets from the broken pieces, and from the fish.1
44 And those who ate were five thousand men.1
45 Then at once He urged His disciples to get into a boat and go ahead of Him to the other side unto Bethsaida, while He dismissed the multitude.1
46 After sending them away, He went into the mountains to pray.
47 When evening had come the boat was in the midst of the sea, but He was alone upon the land.1
48 And He saw them straining on account of rowing, for a great tempest1 opposed them. And around the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking upon the sea; and He would have passed them.
49 And when they saw Him walking upon the sea, they thought that He was a ghost, and cried out;1
50 For all of them saw Him and were aghast. But at once He spoke to them and said unto them, “Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid”1
51 And He got into the boat with them, and the winds diminished; and among themselves they were greatly astonished, and were wondering;5
52 because they had not understood through the loaves, but rather their hearts were hardened.3
53 After they had crossed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret and put to shore.
54 After they had gotten out of the boat, at once they recognized Him,
55 and ran throughout the entire region, and began to carry those who were sick on beds unto wherever they heard Jesus was.1
56 And wherever He would journey, to villages, or unto cities, or into the countryside, they laid the sick in the streets and would beseech Him that they might touch even the hem of His garment; and as many as touched were saved.

Chapter 7
1 At that time the Pharisees gathered to Him, together with certain members of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem.
2 And when they saw some of His disciples eating food with defiled hands (meaning unwashed)2
3 (For the Pharisees and all of the Jews do not often eat without first washing their hands, holding unto the traditions of the elders;2
4 even after they had come from the market place, unless they had washed they would not eat; and truly there were many things which they had received to keep, the washing of cups and pitchers and brazen vessels)3
5 And because of this the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but instead they eat their food with unwashed hands?”
6 So in response, He said to them, “You hypocrites! Isaiah did well to prophesy about you, just as it is written,1 ‘Say to the people who come to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but in their hearts are far off, depart from Me.4
7 their worship of Me is to teach the doctrine of mankind’4
8 Leaving behind the instruction of God, you hold to the doctrine of mankind”3
9 And He went on, saying unto them, “Truly, you set aside the commandments of God, so that you can continue in your own tradition
10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’4 and, ‘Whoever speaks evil against their father or mother is to be put to death’;5
11 But all of you say, ‘If anyone says to their father or mother, whatever is mine that could have helped you is Corban’ (which means an devoted to God)
12 Therefore you no longer allow them to do anything for their father or mother;3
13 casting aside the word of God through your own tradition which you have passed down; and you do many similar things”3
14 Then after calling the multitude again, He said unto them, “Listen and understand:2
15 there is nothing outside of a man eaten by him that can defilea him; but rather the things carried out of the man, these are what defile a man.
16 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear”7
17 Afterward when He had entered into a house away from the multitude, His disciples asked Him about the parable.
18 So He said unto them, “Are you so unsure? Do you not yet understand that everything which is outside eaten by a man cannot defile a man?
19 Because it does not enter into his heart, but rather into his stomach, then is expelled into the void ridding you of the food”8
20 And He said, “The things which proceed out of a man, that is what defiles a man.
21 For from within the heart of a man comes forth all the thoughts of evil, sexual immorality, theft, murder,
22 adultery, covetousness, hatred, false testimony, lust, evil looks, blasphemy, arrogance, wicked foolishness,
23 all such evil things come from within and that defiles a man”2
24 After rising up from there, He withdrew unto the border of Tyre and Sidon. And entered into a house intending that no one know of it; but was unable avoid public notice.
25 Upon hearing about Him, at once a woman who had a young daughter with an impure spirit came falling down at His feet.3
26 And that women was a Greek of Syrophenician descent. And she was pleading with Him, so that He would cast the demon out of her daughter.3
27 So He said unto her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the bread of the children and throw it to the dogs”
28 But she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs under the table eat from the crumbs of the children”3
29 Then He said unto her, “On account of this reply, go; the demon has departed from your daughter”
30 And after returning unto her own house, she found the child lying upon the bed and that the demon had departed.3
31 Then once more departing from the region of Tyre, He came through Sidon3 unto the Sea of Galilee, within the vicinity of Decapolis.
32 And they brought unto Him one who was deaf with a speech impediment, and they called him so that He could lay hands upon him.3
33 After He had taken him aside by himself, away from the multitude, He stuck His fingers in his ears, after He spat, He touched his tongue.3
34 And looking up into the heavens, He sighed and said unto him, “Ephphatha!” which means, “Be you opened!”
35 And at once his ears were opened fully,3 and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he started to speak normally.
36 Afterward He charged them that they tell no one; but the more He charged them, the more they proclaimed it.
37 And they were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all these good things; He makes both the deaf hear and the mute speak”

Chapter 8
1 In those days once again there was a great multitude, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples, and said unto them,
2 “I have compassion for these people because they have already been with Me three days and have nothing to eat;
3 and if I send them away fasting unto their homes, they might faint along the way; for some of them have come from a great distance”
4 So His disciples answered Him and said, “Where could anyone satisfy these people with the food here in the wilderness?”1
5 And He asked them,“How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven”
6 Then He instructed the multitude to rest upon the ground; after taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks, broke and gave them unto His disciples, so that they could distribute them and they served them unto the multitude.
7 They also had a few small fish; after He blessed them, He instructed those also be offered unto them.
8 And all of them ate and were satisfied; afterward they picked up seven baskets full of the leftover pieces.2
9 And those who ate were about four thousand; then He dismissed them.
10 And immediately stepped into a boat with His disciples and came unto the region of Dalmanutha.
11 At that time the Pharisees came and began to question Him, seeking a sign of heaven from Him, tempting Him.
12 And sighing deeply in His Spirit He said, “Why does this lineagea ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this line”2
13 After withdrawing from them, He once again entered into a boat and went unto the other side.2
14 But they forgot to bring the bread, and had no more than one loaf in the boat with them.2
15 And He charged them, saying, “Keep watch! And beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod”2
16 And they were discussing among themselves, saying, “We have no food”2
17 But when Jesus perceived this He said unto them, “Why are you thinking that you have no food? Do you still not discern or comprehend? Have you hardened your heart?2
18 Having eyes, can you not see? And having ears can you not hear? And do you not remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve”
20 “And the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said, “Seven”
21 Then He said unto them, “How is it you do not understand?”
22 After they had come into Bethsaida. Together they carried a blind man to Him and besought Him, so that He might touch him.2
23 So He took the hand of the blind man, led1 him out of the village; and after spiting on his eyes, He laid His hands upon him, asking him if he saw anyone.
24 Upon looking up, he said, “I see those men that look like trees, walking about”
25 Therefore once again He placed His hands upon his eyes; and his sight was fully restored, and he began seeing everything clearly.2
26 Then He sent him unto his house, saying, “Go unto your house, but tell no one in the village”3
27 Afterward Jesus went out together with His disciples, towards the village of Caesarea of Philipi; and along the way He asked His disciples, saying unto them, “Who do men say I Am?”
28 And they answered, saying, “John the Baptist; but others Elijah; and others, one of the prophets”1
29 Then He asked them, “But who do you say I Am?” So to answer, Peter said to Him, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”4
30 Then He charged them that they would tell no one about Him.
31 Afterward He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be condemned by the elders and the high priests and the scribes, and be killed, and be raised on the third day.
32 And He began speaking this message openly. So Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
33 But He turned away, looked upon His disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, satan! for you have in mind not the ways of God, but the ways of mankind”
34 Therefore after calling the multitude along with His disciples, He said unto them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, they must deny self, and take up their cross and follow Me.2
35 For whoever if they desire to save their life will lose it; but whoever loses their life for My sake and the good tidings, the same shall save it.2
36 For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul?2
37 Or what could mankind give as the purchasing price for your soul?
38 For whoever if they are ashamedb of Me and My words in the midst of this wicked and adulterous generation, the Son of Man shall also be ashamedb of them when He comes in the glory of His Father with all the holy angels”2

Chapter 9
1 And He said unto them, “Truly I tell you, that there are some of you standing here, who will not taste death until they have seen the kingdom of God come in power”1
2 Then after six days, Jesus took Peter along with James and John, and led them up a very high mountain by themselves alone. And while they were praying Jesus was transfigured before them;1
3 and His clothes became radiant white, such as no cloth refiner on the earth could whiten.2
4 And Moses appeared to them with Elijah; and they were speaking with Him.
5 Then in response Peter said to Jesus, “Teacher, it is glorious we are here; let us build three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah”1
6 Because he didn’t know what to say; for they were terrified.1
7 Then a cloud came overshadowing them, and a voice came from out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, In whom I Am well pleased; listen to Him”
8 Then suddenly! They looked around, but no longer saw anyone except, only Jesus by Himself.
9 Afterward, as they were coming down from the mountain, He instructed them to tell no one what they had seen until after the Son of Man has risen from the dead.
10 So they kept the matter to themselves, discussing what, “Rising from the dead” meant.
11 Then they asked Him, saying, “Why then do the Pharisees and the scribes say Elijah must first come?”
12 And He said unto them, “Truly, Elijah comes first to restore all things, just as it is written concerning the Son of Man that He shall suffer many things and shall be condemned,
13 But I say unto you, that Elijah truly has come and they did unto him many of their desires, just as it is written about him”
14 After they had returned to the disciples, He looked upon the great multitude around them, and the scribes arguing with them.
15 And at once after they recognized Jesus, the entire multitude was amazed; and they ran forth to greet Him.
16 Afterward He asked the scribes, “Why are you arguing with them?”
17 And one from among the multitude answered Him, “Teacher, I brought you my son who has a mute spirit;
18 And when it lays hold of him, it scratches him, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and he becomes rigid: and I spoke to your disciples, so that they would cast it out, but they were unable”
19 And in response to him He said, “Oh unbelieving and perverse generation1 how long shall I remain with you? How long shall I be patient with you? Bring him here to Me”
20 So they brought him to Him. And upon seeing Him, the spirit immediately threw him into a seizure. After he had fallen to the ground he began rolling about and frothing at the mouth.1
21 Then He asked his father, “How long since he became like this?” And he replied, “From childhood.1
22 And it has often thrown him into a fire and into the water in order to kill him. Now if you are able to do anything, have mercy on us!”
23 Then Jesus said unto him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to those who have faith”1
24 So at once the boy’s father cried out, saying, “I believe; help my lack of faith”1
25 But when Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, He rebuked the impure spirit, and said unto him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no further”1
26 After shrieking and throwing him into a convulsion, it came out; and he became like a corpse, and many of them were saying, “He’s dead!”
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up.1
28 Now after He had entered into a dwelling, in private His disciples asked Him, “Why were we unable to cast it out?”
29 And He said unto them, “This kind does not come out except by means of prayer”2
30 Afterward, going from there they continued walking throughout Galilee, although He desired that no one would know of it.
31 Because He was teaching His disciples and said unto them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; but after He has been killed, He will be raised on the third day”
32 But they did not understand His statement, and were scared to ask Him.
33 After they had come into Capernaum; while He was in a house, He asked them, “What were you discussing along the way?”
34 But they were silent, for they had been debating with one another on the way, which of them was the greatest.
35 So He sat down, and calling the twelve He said unto them, “If anyone wants to be first, he will be the lowest of all and the servant to all”
36 Then He took a little child, and stood him in the center of them, embraced him and said unto them,
37 “Whoever welcomes one of these children in My name welcomes Me; and whoever welcomes Me does not welcome Me, but the One who sent Me”
38 And John answered, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who wasn’t following us casting out demons in Your name and we forbid him, because he would not follow us”
39 So then Jesus said, “Do not hinder them, for no one who does a miracle in My name, would then suddenly dishonor Me.
40* But whoever is not with us is against us a
41 And whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, since you are of Christ, truly I tell you, they shall not lose their reward.
42 But whosoever if they cause one of these little ones to sin, who has put their faith in Me, it would be better for them if, they had hung a millstone around their neck and been thrown into the sea.2
43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into the life crippled, rather than, with two hands be dragged down into hell, into the eternal fire,2
44 where, ‘The worm does not die and the fire is not quenched’3
45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter the life crippled, rather than, those having two feet being cast into hell, into the eternal fire,4
46 where, ‘The worm does not die and the fire is not quenched’3
47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out; it is better for you enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than, while having two eyes be thrown into hell, into the eternal fire,5
48 where, ‘The worm does not die and the fire is not quenched’2
49 For everyone will be tested by fire, and every offering shall be saltedb with salt.6
50 Salt is good; but if the salt loses its saltiness, by what means can you restore its salt? Have salt within yourselves, and hold perfect peace among one another”

Chapter 10
1 After rising up from there, He went into the boundaries of Judea, and beyond the River Jordan; at that time once again the multitudes gathered unto Him, and as customary He taught them.
2 And the Pharisees came to question Him, if it is lawful for a man to divorce his wife, tempting Him.
3 And in response to them, He said, “What did Moses command you?”
4 So they said, “Moses permitted a man to ‘write her a certificate of divorce’1 ‘and send her out of his house’1”
5 But Jesus said unto them, “Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this law.
6 But from the beginning, ‘He created them; male and female’2”
7 ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother,3
8 and unite with his wife: and the two shall become one flesh’3 So they are no longer two, but one flesh.
9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate”
10 Afterward inside the house, once again the disciples were asking Him concerning these things.
11 So He said unto them, “Whoever divorces his wife and has entered into a marital relationship with another, commits adultery against her;
12 and if a woman divorces her husband and has entered into a marital relationship with another, she commits adultery”
13 Afterward they were bringing children to Him, so that He could lay hands upon them; but the disciples began to rebuke them.4
14 But when Jesus saw it, He was displeased and said unto them, “Let the children come to Me and do not hinder them; for of such as these is the kingdom of God.
15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall never enter into it”
16 Then He embraced them in His arms, laid His hands upon them and blessed them.5
17 And as they were going out in the direction of the road, one came running to Him and fell on his knees before Him, asking Him, “Wise Teacher, what good things must I do that I may inherit eternal life?”
18 And so Jesus said unto him, “Why call Me wise? None are wise except One, God alone.
19 You know the commandments, ‘You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not bear false testimony against your neighbor,6 Honor your father and your mother’7”
20 And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have done all these things from my youth”
21 Then looking upon him, Jesus loved Him and said unto him, “Within you still lack: go, sell all your possessions and give to the poor, and afterward you shall have treasure in heaven, then come and follow Me”4
22 But he was saddened by these words and withdrew grieving, for he had many possessions.
23 Then looking around, Jesus said unto His disciples, “How rarely those with riches enter into the kingdom of God”
24 And the disciples were shocked by His words. So in response once again Jesus spoke unto them, “Children, how difficult it is to enter into the kingdom of God.4
25 It is easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for the rich to enter into the kingdom of God”
26 Then they were astonished all the more, saying unto Him, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Looking upon them Jesus said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible”
28 Then Peter said unto Him, “Look, we have left everything and followed you, therefore what will become of us?”
29 And Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, no one who has left brothers or sisters or father, or mother, or children, or land for My sake and for the sake of the gospel,
30 shall not fail to receive a hundred times as much in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and fathers and children and land, accompanied by persecution, and in the age to come, eternal life.
31 But many who identify as the first will be last, and the lowest, the first”4
32 Afterward, while they were on the road going up unto Jerusalem; at that time Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were distressed, and others who followed were afraid. And once more He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen unto Him,
33 Saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed unto the high priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will deliver Him to the Gentiles,
34 And they will mock Him and spit on Him, and scourge Him, and kill Him, but on the third day, He will be raised”8
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee came to Him, saying to Him, “Teacher, we wish that you would do whatever we shall ask”
36 And He said unto them, “What is it you want Me to do for you?”
37 And they said to Him, “Permit that one of us may sit at Your right and one at Your left, in the midst of Your glory”
38 But Jesus said unto them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup which I drink, or be baptized with the baptism by which I Am baptized?”
39 And they said, “We can” Then Jesus said unto them, “The cup which I drink you will drink; and you will be baptized with the baptism I Am baptized with;
40 but to sit at My right or at My left is not Mine to give, rather this has been prepared by My Father”4
41 But when the other ten heard of this, they were very displeased with James and John.
42 Therefore Jesus called them, saying to them, “You know that those thinking to rule the Gentiles lord it over them; and their foremost men crush them down.
43 But this cannot be the way among you, instead whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your minister;
44 and whoever wants to be first among you will be a servant unto all;
45 for truly the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many”
46 Then they entered into Jericho. Afterward, as He was going out of Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting beside the way.8
47 But upon hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David have mercy on me!”
48 So many began rebuking him, so that he would be silent; but he continued to cry out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 And Jesus stopped, saying, “Call him” So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be at ease, rise up! He is calling you”
50 So he threw aside his cloak, and upon standing up, he came to Jesus.
51 Then in response to him, Jesus said, “What is it you want Me to do?” So the blind man said to Him, “Lord, Rabi,5 that I would recover my sight”
52 Then Jesus said unto him, “Go; your faith has healed you” And at once he recovered his sight and began to follow Him along the way

Chapter 11
1 Afterward as they approached Jerusalem from the direction of Bethphage, and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, He sent out two of the disciples,1
2 And instructed them, “Go into the village just ahead of you, and as soon as you enter into it, you will find a colt tied there, which no man has ever ridden; unbind it and lead it unto Me.
3 And if anyone might say to you ‘What are you doing?’2 Say, ‘the Lord has need of them’; and immediately afterward, He will guide them home”
4 So they went and found a colt which was tied to an outer gate, beside the road; and they untied it.
5 Then someone standing there said unto them, “What are you doing, untying that colt?”
6 And they spoke to them as Jesus had instructed, and they permitted them.
7 Then they led the colt unto Jesus and laid their mantles upon it; and He sat upon it.
8 And many people laid down their mantles along the road, and others cut branches off trees, and were spreading them upon the road.3
9 And those who went in front together with those who followed were shouting out: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord’4”
10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David, Hosanna in the highest!”5
11 Once Jesus had entered into Jerusalem and into the temple: after He had looked around at everything, the eventide had already come, so He went out unto Bethany with the twelve.6
12 Now on the following day, after they had departed from Bethany, He became hungry.
13 And upon seeing a fig tree with leaves far off, He went unto it. In the off chance He might find something on it; but when He came unto it, He found nothing except leaves, because it was not the season for figs.
14 And in response to this, He said unto it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again!” And His disciples were listening.
15 Then Jesus went into Jerusalem and entered into the temple, and He began to drive out those who were buying and selling in the temple, and He overturned the tables of the temple treasurers and the seats of those who were selling doves;
16 And He would not permit that anyone carry merchandise through the temple.
17 And He began preaching and said “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all people’7 but you are making it a den of thieves”
18 When the high priests and the scribes heard this, at that time they began seeking how they might murder Him; since they were afraid of Him, because the multitude all marveled at His teaching.
19 Then once evening had come, they went out of the city.
20 But in the early morning as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree had withered up from its roots.
21 At that time Peter remembered, saying unto Him, “Teacher, look! The fig tree which you cursed has withered away”
22 And in response, Jesus said unto them, “If you have faith in God.5
23 Truly I tell you, if one says unto a mountain, ‘Get up and cast yourself into the sea’ and does not doubt in their heart, but rather has faith that what they say will come to pass, it will be done for them”3
24 Because of this I say unto you, whatever so great a thing you would pray for, askinga and believing that you will receive, you shall receive.5
25 And when you stand praying be forgiving, if you are holding something against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven might also forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if you are not forgiving, neither will your Father who is in heaven be forgiving towards you”3
27 Afterward once more Jesus went into Jerusalem. But as He was walking within the temple, the high priests and the scribes along with the elders came to Him.
28 And they began asking Him, “By whose authority are you doing these things, and who gave you such power, that you can do these things?”3
29 So Jesus said unto them, “I will also ask you one question, answer Me truthfully, and I will tell you by whose authority I do these things.8
30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of man? Can you answer Me?”5
31 So they began discussing8 it among themselves, saying, “If we say ‘From heaven’ He will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
32 But if we say, ‘Of men’ ” They were afraid of the crowd, for the people believed that John truly was a prophet.
33 And they answered Jesus, saying, “We don't know” Then Jesus said unto them, “Nor will I tell you by whose authority I do these things”

Chapter 12
1 Then He began speaking to them in parables, “A man planted a vineyard and put a fence around it, then dug a winepress, and built a watchtower and rented it out to winemakers, and went on a journey.
2 In the proper season he sent a servant to the winemakers, so that he might receive some of the fruits of the vineyard from the winemakers.
3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away desolate.
4 And once more he sent another servant unto them; but this one they wounded in the head and threw out having disgraced him.1
5 Afterward he sent another; but this one they murdered, as well as, many others. Indeed beating some and killing others.
6 Yet one still remained, His beloved son;2 so he sent him last unto them, saying, ‘They will have reverence for my son’
7 But the winemakers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and the inheritance will be ours!’
8 Then they took him, and murdered him and cast him out of the vineyard.
9 Therefore what will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the winemakers, and will give the vineyard unto others.
10 Have you not read the scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the head keystone.3
11 This is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in His eyes’?3”
12 At that time they sought to seize him, but were afraid of the crowd, for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went their way.
13 Then they sent some of the Pharisees and the Herodians to Him, so that they might trap Him in His words.
14 And they arrived, saying to Him, “Teacher, we know that you are truthful and are not biased unto anyone; for you do not regard the opinions of mankind, but teach the truth in the ways of God. Is it lawful to pay tribute to Caesar or not? Shall we pay, or shall we not pay?”5
15 But having perceived their hypocrisy, He said unto them, “Why are you trying to trap Me? Bring a denarius here unto Me, so that I may show it”2
16 So they brought one. And He said unto them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” And they said to Him, “Caesar's”
17 Then Jesus said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God’s” And they marveled at Him.
18 Then the Sadducees came to Him, (who say there is no resurrection) and asked Him, saying,
19 “Teacher, Moses wrote to us that, ‘If brothers reside together and one of them dies, having no son’ ‘Her husband’s brother shall unite with her and shall take her for himself as a wife and fulfill the duties of a husband’s brother’4
20 Now there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, and died leaving no son.
21 Then the second took her, and died leaving behind no sons; and in the same manner the third;
22 then the seventh leaving behind no sons. Last of all, the wife also died.
23 At the resurrection which of them will she belong to? For they all had her as a wife”5
24 Then Jesus said unto them, “You are in error, because you do not understand the scriptures, nor the power of God.
25 For after they rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but rather they will be like the angels in heaven.
26 Now concerning the dead that rise, have you not read in the scroll of Moses, from out of the bush God said unto him, ‘I Am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’6
27 Not the God of the dead, but the living; you are badly deceived!”
28 After hearing their discussion one of the scribes came forward, having seen that He had answered soundly, he asked Him, “Which is the greatest commandment of all?”
29 So Jesus answered him, “The greatest is this, ‘Hear ye, Oh Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One;7
30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind’8
31 The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’9 There is no other commandment is greater than these”
32 Then the scribe said unto Him, “Well said Teacher; You have spoken the truth that, ‘The Lord our God, the Lord is One;10
33 and to, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind’8 and to ‘love your neighbor as yourself’9 these things are more important than all the burnt offerings and all the sacrifices”
34 When Jesus realized that he had answered wisely, He said unto him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God” From then on, no one would dare question Him any further.
35 So in response Jesus said, while He taught in the temple, “How can the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?
36 For David himself said through the Holy Spirit, ‘The Lord said to my lord, “Sit at My right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”10’
37 David himself calls Him ‘Lord’; so how could He be his Son?” And the great multitude was listening joyfully unto Him.
38 And while He was teaching, He said unto them, “Beware of the scribes who love to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted in the marketplaces,11
39 and the first seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at a banquets,
40 They devour the houses of widows and as a show make lengthy prayers; such as these will suffer the greater damnation”5
41 Afterward as He was sitting opposite unto the temple treasury; He was observing how the people put money into the treasury, as well as, the many rich people who would put in much.
42 Then a woman came, a poor widow, who put in two lepta,a (which is a kodrantes)
43 After calling His disciples, He said unto them, “Truly I tell you, that this poor widow has put in something of greater value than all those putting into the temple treasury;
44 because they all had put in from out of abundance, but she in her poverty, put in all that she had, her entire livelihood”

Chapter 13
1 As He was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, Teacher, look! What beautiful stones and what wonderful architecture!”
2 But in response to him, Jesus said, “Do you see all these tall buildings? In this place there will not be left a single stone upon stone that will not be torn down, but in three days I will rebuild another without human hands”1
3 Afterward, as He was sitting atop the Mount of Olives over the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked Him privately,
4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will signals when all these things will come?”
5 So Jesus began speaking to them, “Watch out lest any man lead you astray.
6 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘i am he!’ and will lead many astray.1
7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, see that you are not troubled, for it is necessary these things come; but it is not yet the end.
8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be earthquakes and famines throughout the regions. But these things are the beginning of labor pains.
9 And you are to guard yourselves; for they will deliver you to their councils and scourge you in their synagogues; and you will stand before rulers and kings on My behalf, as a testimony unto them.
10 But it is necessary the good tidings first be preached unto all the nations.
11 So when they lead you away to hand you over, do not worrya beforehand about what you are to say. But rather you are to say whatsoever is given to you, for it will not be you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12 Yes, brother will betray brother unto death and the father his child; and the children shall rise in rebellion against the parents and put them to death.
13 And you shall be hated by all mankind for the sake of My name, but the one who perseveres unto the end shall be saved.
14 So when you perceive the abomination of desolation, standing where it must not be, (may the reader understand) then let those in the land of Judea flee to the mountains.2
15 Let those upon the rooftop not come down into the house, nor enter in to get anything from their house;3
16 And those in the countryside do not turn back to get your cloak.
17 And woe unto those with child and those who nurse in those days.
18 And pray that your flight does not take place in winter.
19 For in those days will be a tribulation, such as has not taken place from the beginning of the world until that time, nor shall there be again.1
20 And unless those days were shortened by the Lord, no flesh would survive; but for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has shortened the days.
21 At that time if someone says to you, ‘Look! here is the christ’ or, ‘Look! there he is’ do not believe them.1
22 for false christs and lying prophets will rise, and fabricate miracles and wonders in order to lead astray, if able, even the elect.
23 Therefore you are to be on guard; Behold! I have foretold you all these things.
24 But in the days after the tribulation, ‘The sun will be covered by darkness’4 ‘and the moon will no longer give her light’4
25 ‘and the stars will fall out of sight of the sky, and the air will be rolled away like a scroll’5
26 And at that time they will see, ‘The Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven’6 ‘Unto whom was given power and glory’6
27 And at that time He will send forth His angels, and gather His chosen from the four cardinal points, unto the farthest ends of the earth unto the farthest ends of the heavens.
28 So learn from the parable of the fig tree, soon after its branch has become weakened, and it puts forth the autumn leaves,b you will know the heat is near;
29 therefore when you perceive these things taking place, you are to know that it is near, right at the gates.
30 Truly I tell you, this age will not pass until all these things have taken place.
31 The earth and the skies above will pass away, but My words will never pass away.
32 But concerning the day and hour no man knows, nor even the angels in heaven, not even the Son, but only the Father.2
33 Keep watch, and pray;2 for you do not know when the time will come.
34 Just like a man journeying out into the wilderness, who left his house and entrusted his slaves with authority, each unto his work and unto the doorkeeper he commanded that he stay awake.
35 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know when the lord of the house is returning, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or in the third watch of the night, or in the early morning.
36 Lest suddenly he comes and finds you asleep.
37 And so I say unto all of you, unto all I say, ‘Stay awake!’ ”

Chapter 14
1 Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were two days out; and the high priests and the scribes were seeking a way to arrest Him through lies and having Him put to death;1
2 but they were saying, “Not during the festival, lest it might cause the people to riot”
3 While He was in Bethany sitting at the table in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came unto Him carrying an alabaster jar of a very valuable ointment of pure spikenard; and she broke open the alabaster jar and poured it upon His head.1
4 But some were indignant towards Him, and said, “Why was the ointment wasted?1
5 No doubt this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and given unto the poor” and they were murmuring at her2
6 But Jesus said, “Let her be; why are you troubling her? Truly she has done a good work unto Me.
7 For you shall always have the poor with you, and whenever you want you can do good unto them; but you will not always have Me.
8 She has done what she could; she came beforehand to anoint My body for burial.
9 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the entire world, they also will tell of what she has done, in memory of her”
10 Afterward Judas of Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the high priests in order that he might betray Him to them.2
11 And when they heard it, they rejoiced and promised to give him money. At that time he began seeking a convenient way that he might betray Him.
12 Afterward on the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when the people had sacrificed the Passover lamb, His disciples said to Him “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?”
13 Then He sent out two of His disciples and said unto them, “Go into the city, and you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him;
14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the room, where I shall eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’
15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and made ready; make preparations for us there”
16 So His disciples left and went into the city, and found it just as He told them; and they made preparations for the Passover.
17 When evening had come, He arrived with the twelve.
18 And while they were sitting at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, that one of you will betray me, one who eats with Me”
19 Then they were distressed, and1 one by one began to say unto Him, “It couldn't be me Lord?3”
20 So in response to them, He said, “It is one of the twelve, one who dips with Me in the dish.
21 For truly the Son of man is going just as it is written about Him; but woe to the man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had never been born”
22 Nevertheless as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and after blessing, He broke it into pieces and gave it unto them, and said, “Take this, eat; this is My body”4
23 Then He took a cup and gave thanks, passing it unto them, and they all drank from it.
24 And He said unto them, “This is My blood, a testimony which is poured out on the behalf of many.2
25 Truly I tell you, I will not drink from the fruit of the vine, until the day when I drink it, anew in the kingdom of My Father”
26 After singing hymns, they went to the Mount of Olives.
27 At that time Jesus said to them, “All of you will be offended by Me on this night, for it is written, ‘Strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered’5
28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee”
29 And Peter said to Him, “Even if all are offended, but I will not be”
30 Then Jesus said unto him, “Truly I tell you that on this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times”2
31 But he declared vehemently, “Even if it is necessary for me to die with You, I will not deny You” Then all of the disciples said the same.
32 Then they went to a place called Gethsemane; and He said unto His disciples, “Rest here while I go to pray”
33 And He took along Peter and James and John by themselves, and they became sorrowful and distressed.
34 Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, unto the point of death; stay here and keep watch”
35 Then He walked a short distance forward and He fell facedown to the ground, and began to pray that If it were possible, let this hour pass Me by.1
36 Then He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible to you; take this cup from Me; but not as I will, but as You will”
37 Then He came and found them asleep, so He said unto Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Were you not strong enough to keep watch one hour?
38 Keep watch, and pray so that you do not enter into temptation; truly, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”
39 And again He went to pray, speaking the same words.
40 And He returned, and found them asleep once again, for their eyes were burdened; and they did not know how to answer Him.3
41 And returning a third time, He and said unto them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough, the hour has come; Behold! the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of those given into sin.
42 Rise, go; Behold! My betrayer has come”
43 Then suddenly! While He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came towards them together with a large mob carrying swords and clubs, in the agency of the high priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 Now His betrayer had given them a signal, saying, “Whoever I kiss, He is the one; take hold of Him and lead Him away under guard”
45 Then he immediately approached Him, saying, “Master!” and kissed Him.
46 And stepping forward, they laid their hands upon Him and seized Him.
47 Then one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48 But in response, Jesus said unto them, “You have come as against a robber, with swords and clubs to lay hold of Me?
49 I was with every day you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me; but so that the scriptures would be fulfilled”
50 After yielding Him, they all fled.
51 And one of the young men who was following Him, wore a linen cloth upon his nakedness; and they grabbed hold of it.
52 So he left behind the linen cloth and fled naked.
53 Then they led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the high priests and the elders and the scribes gathered.
54 But Peter followed Him at a distance, even unto the point of entering the courtyard of the high priest; and was sitting with the attendants and warming himself beside the fire.
55 Then the high priests and the whole of the councila sought witnesses against Jesus in order to put Him to death, but found nothing.
56 And many gave false testimony against Him, but their testimonies were inconsistent.
57 Then certain men stood up to bear false witness against Him, saying,
58 “He said, I will destroy the temple made by human hands, and within three days I will rebuild another made without human hands”
59 But not even in this was their testimony consistent.
60 So upon rising up, the high priest in the center questioned Jesus, saying, “Have you no answer to what these men testify against you?”2
61 But Jesus remained silent, and did not respond at all. Therefore again the high priest said to Him, and said to Him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of God?”1
62 Then Jesus said unto him, “I Am, and you shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the Almighty, and ‘coming upon the clouds of heaven’6”
63 Then the high priest tore His robes, saying, “What further need do we have of witnesses?
64 You heard this blasphemy from His own mouth,7 what is your verdict?” And they all condemned Him guilty, deserving of death.
65 Then some of them began spitting on Him and buffeted Him; and saying to Him,1 “Prophesy to us Christ; who was it that struck You?”7 And the servants took Him and slapped Him.
66 While Peter was down in the courtyard, a servant girl of the high priests came unto him.
67 After she had seen Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “Surely, you were with Jesus of Nazareth”
68 But he denied it, saying, “I don't know what you are saying” Then he went out to gate.2
69 Afterward, another servant girl saw him, she began to say unto those who were nearby, “This man is one of them!”8
70 But again he denied it. Then after a short while, some bystanders said to Peter, “Truly you are one of His, for you are certainly a Galilean, truly your accent makes it obvious”9
71 Then he began to curse and swear, “I don’t know the Man”
72 And at once a rooster crowed. Then Peter remembered the words which Jesus said unto him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times” And considering it, he wept.3

Chapter 15
1 Afterward early in the morning, the high priests along with the elders and the scribes, as well as, the whole of the council, held a meeting, and1 they bound Jesus and led Him away to deliver Him unto Pilate.
2 And Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He replied, “Your saying?”
3 Then the high priests began accusing Him of many things, but He would not answer.2
4 Then Pilate said to Him, “Have you no response? Do you understand how severe their accusations are against you?”
5 But Jesus answered no further; to such an extent that Pilate was amazed.
6 Now at the festival, Pilate would release a prisoner unto them, whom they requested.
7 Now there was a man called Barabbas, who was imprisoned along with His fellow rebels who had committed murder during a rebellion.
8 And the crowd began to shout, requesting of him just as he usually did for them.
9 So Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release the King of the Jews?”
10 Because he knew that they had handed Him over out of jealousy.3
11 But the high priests persuaded the crowd, so that instead he would release Barabbas unto them.4
12 So once more Pilate answered, saying to them, “What should I do to the one called the King of the Jews?”
13 And again the people shouted, “Crucify Him!”
14 So Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?" But they shouted riotously, saying, “Crucify Him!”
15 Therefore Pilate, wishing to make the crowd content, released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over so that He could be crucified.
16 Afterward the soldiers led Him away into the hall, (which is, the Praetorium), and their whole company gathered around Him.
17 And they put a purple robe on Him, and after they had twisted a crown of thorns, they placed it on His.
18 And began applauding Him by saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
19 And kept bashing Him on His head with a reed, and began to spit on Him; and bent the knee, bowing before Him.5
20 Then after they had mocked Him, they stripped off His purple robe and put His clothing on Him, then led Him to be crucified.5
21 And they compelled a man passing by who was coming from the fields, Simon of Cyrene, (the father Alexander and Rufus), so that he would carry His cross.
22 Afterward they came Him to Golgotha place, which is interpreted as, “The Place of The Skull”a
23 And they gave Him wined mixed with gall, but He would not drink it.
24 After crucifying Him, they divided His garments by casting lots over them, as to which each man would take.
25 And it was the third hour when they crucified Him.b
26 And there was an inscription of His charges, written was, “The King of the Jews”
27 Then they crucified two thieves beside Him, one on His right, and one on His left.
28 And those passing by were shaking their heads insulting Him, and saying, “Ha ha! the One to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days”
29 "Save yourself come down from the cross”
30 In like manner the high priests were also mocking among themselves, along with the scribes, saying, “He saved others, He can't save Himself?
31 The Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we can see and believe” Even those who were crucified with Him were insulting Him.
32 After the sixth hour had come, darkness swept across the entire land, until the ninth hour.
33 Around the ninth hour Jesus called out in a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani” which means, “My God, My God, I enter into your rest”
34 Upon hearing this, some of those who were standing there began saying, “Behold! He calls for Elijah”
35 So one of them ran, took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, put it on a reed, while he was giving it to Him to drink, others said, “Let's see if Elijah comes to take Him down”4
36 Again Jesus let out a loud voice and gave His last breath.
37 Then the partitioning wallc of the temple torn in two from top to bottom.
38 When the centurion, who was standing nearby Him saw the way that He had given the last breath, He said, “Truly, this Man was the Son of God”
39 And women were there also watching from afar, among them were Mary of Magdala, and Mary the mother of James and John, as well as, Salome.
40 Who had begun following Him while He was in Galilee, and attended to Him, as well as, many others who went up unto Jerusalem together with Him.
41 Now when evening had come, since it was the day of preparation, which is, the day before the Sabbath,
42 Joseph of Arimathea came, (a prominent member of the council who also had accepted the kingdom of God) being bold, he went before Pilate and pleaded for the body of Jesus.
43 And Pilate wondered if was already dead, therefore, summoning a centurion to him, he asked him if He was already dead.
44 After he was made aware by the centurion, he yielded the body to Joseph.
45 So he bought a pure linen cloth and took His body1 down and wrapped Him in the pure linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which was carved in a rock; afterward he rolled a large stone over the entrance of the tomb.
46 Afterward, Mary of Magdala together with Mary the mother of James were watching the place He was laid.

Chapter 16
1 When the Sabbath day had passed, Mary of Magdala, and the other Mary the mother of James together with Salome, bought spices, so that they could anoint Him.
2 But early on the first morning of the Sabbath week,a they went to the tomb as the sun was rising.1
3 And they were saying among themselves, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb for us?” For it was very large.1
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away.
5 Afterward as they entered the tomb they saw a young man sitting to the right, wearing a white robe; and they were startled.
6 And he said unto them, “Do not be afraid; you are seeking Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, for He has risen. Come, see the place where He lay.2
7 But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He has gone before you into Galilee, there you will see Him; just as He told you’
8* So they left running from the tomb, because fear and astonishment had gripped them. And they said nothing unto anyone, for they were awestruck. But without delay they reported unto Peter and those with him everything they had been told. Afterward Jesus Himself appeared unto them and sent them out as far as the east is from the west, on behalf of He who is the Temple together with the eternal incorruptible message of salvation Amen. b
